Problems at Hazel Farm

  • Ugly Common Room
Our Common room where the television is looks really awful. Therefore we decided to refurbish it and  liven it up.

  • NTL phone system
You probably noticed, that you cannot call the 0800 numbers. That is because NTL does not allow it and force us to use only their costly system. There are no other opportunitity to call 0800 numbers, since the nearest BT box is 1 mile away. We are denied to use unmetered Internet access (no payment for the time spent, a monthly subsription instead)  as well, the offer that every residential customer can have today. Instead, we are paying a lot of money for this telephone system, in total much more than residential customers including their line rental, which we do not pay. Some of us, who live here for example more than one year (and are in fact in a sense "residential") would like to pay line rental and have all services that market nowadays offers available, which would be in total much cheaper. If you want to act on your own and wish to have a free choice, you will not get it. It is forbidden to install a separate line your room, even if you have paid totally it.

  • Lack of the Toilett Paper
Although this sounds a bit funny, it is in fact a serious problem. Toilett paper is provided into flats every 3 months in insufficient amounts. After one month there is no toilett paper available and you have to buy your own one. We have worse situation in every respect in comparison with campus people. We pay comparable rent, have to clean ourselves, live far away from university, do not have access to BT boxes, computers in labs etc, and moreover, we have to "invest" into toilett paper, which is provided free on campus all the time.
  • Hazel Farm Bus Service
Sometimes it is impossible to get into full bus, or the bus is missing completely. This is a lot of pain for us, since it takes usually another hours to get to the University.
  • Insufficient bus shelter
The bus shelters for Hazel Farm bus are quite small, especially at the University.
